SURFING THE COLDSTREAM FESTIVAL
Surfing The What???
The 'Coldstream' is a street running through the middle of the coastal town of Yamba, NSW.
Once upon a time, a renowned street entertainer had a dream in which performers lined the whole length of this (very steep) thoroughfare, spreading music, colour and movement as they 'surfed' down the slope.
Ten years on and we still honour the spirit of that dream by filling Yamba with the sights and sounds of an almost entirely FREE celebration of music and arts. The event showcases the strong community ethic and surf culture that sets the Lower Clarence aside as a destination and ensures every family leaves with timeless memories.
At the heart of the festival experience is a top quality live music and dance performance program with the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop. The live music bill places local acts alongside quality independent touring artists drawing from world, folk, jazz, soul, roots and electronic music traditions.
Community programs that feed into the festival programming include a blues-rock choir made up of six local primary schools, a high school busking competition, an art walk featuring local indigenous artists and a short film festival showcasing local stories, surf culture and Aboriginal stories from both first time and experienced film-makers.
The festival continues to spread its wings across the Clarence Valley, with the focus on delivering a family-friendly, alcohol-free outdoor event of the highest quality. Some say a festival can let you forget where you are and that is certainly true of good festivals. We hope our festival won’t let you forget the marvels of this very special part of the world, leaving you with an enriched sense of place. WHO ARE WE
